PEACH BOTTOM, Pa. - Gettysburg fired a pair of 331 rounds to finish fifth with a 662 in the nine-team Franklin & Marshall Invitational played on Saturday and Sunday at Pilgrim's Oak Golf Club. Freshman
Ned MacPherson (North Mansfield, Mass./St. Mark's School) finished in an eighth-place tie with a two-round score of 158.
MacPherson shot a six-over-par 78 on the first day of competition for the Bullets' best round of the weekend. He followed with an 80 on Sunday. Freshman
Ben Boss (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and senior
Keith Hinder (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) tied for 29th with a 171. Hinder had a first-round 80. Junior
Jim LeClair (Plainfield, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) put together a 183 on the weekend. That quartet made up the Gettysburg scorers on the first day. Freshman
Reid Sessa (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier), whose score was disqualified on Saturday, shot an 80 on Sunday.
The Bullets were fourth after the first day of competition, 13 strokes off the pace established by McDaniel's 318. Wesley (319) and Franklin & Marshall White (320) rounded out the top three. Wesley and Franklin & Marshall White shot identical 310 rounds on Sunday to take over first and second with scores of 629 and 630, respectively, while McDaniel fell to third with a 314 to finish with a total of 632. Ursinus overcame a first-round 340 and shot a 317 in the second round to jump Gettysburg for fourth place by a margin of five strokes.
Bo McGuire of Ursinus posted a two-round 150 to take individual medalist honors. McGuire shot a tournament best even-par 72 on Sunday. Dennis Gunderson and Bryan Hartog of Franklin & Marshall White shot 151 and 154, respectively to finish second and third.
Gettysburg's fall schedule is now complete. The Bullets will resume play in the spring.
